One car. Many stories.
Retro Tours Pula – Vintage Zastava 101 Experience
A private two-hour ride through the Yugoslav-era history of Pula. Hidden corners, real stories, and a 1979 Stojadin that turns every head on the road.
More than just a ride
This ride isn’t just about where we’re going, it’s about how we get there and who we share it with. Cruising through Pula in a classic car from the Yugoslav era, we roll through corners of the city that still hold a piece of the past. No script, no rush… Pomalo, as we say in Pula.
Hidden places and secret stories
Pula keeps its best stories off the tourist trail, and most people leave without ever finding them. As we drive, you will pass places that are still closed off, still guarded, and still carrying the weight of what they were. Some of them nobody could enter for decades, not even the people who lived their whole lives right next to them.
You will also see neighbourhoods that were not built for beauty but for a very specific idea of fairness. Once you understand that idea, the buildings start to look completely different. Not like something forgotten, but like something that was genuinely thought through and meant to last.

At one point we stop at a gate, and the view from there tells you more about how power worked in this part of the world than any museum could. A bit later we pull up at a beach where workers, teachers and neighbours came every summer, not as tourists but as people who were simply owed a holiday, and knew it. And then we finish the evening at a building that was designed for one purpose and now serves entirely different ones.

None of this is in any guidebook. All of it is still there, exactly as it was. You just need someone to show you where to look, and a Zastava 101 to get you there.
Every ride finds its own rhythm and Stojadin fits all of this better than any other vehicle could. The engine sounds like something between a sewing machine and a tractor, praši gdegod da idemo, and people on the street occasionally stop to share their own memories of the same car.
The car that starts conversations
Stojadin has a way of opening people up. A man in his sixties stops on the street and tells you about the one his father had. A woman laughs and says she learned to drive in exactly this model. It happens more than you’d expect, and it’s never the same story twice.
Younger people react differently. They slow down, look at it sideways, and ask is this a Yugo or what is this exactly. Which is honestly a fair question, and also the beginning of the whole conversation.

Captured moments from the road
Every ride ends back where it started. You’ll take a small souvenir home, but the streets you would never have found on your own, the story you didn’t expect, a car that made you feel like Pula had a secret and let you in on it… That’s the part you’ll actually remember.
